Out of SHAPE

So Leanna and I just went on a 45 minute walk around the neighborhood. Geesh- I am out of shape. It felt good to get out and get moving. As I was walking, I started in with my negative self talk. I was getting frustrated with myself that I have let myself get back into this condition. God gently reminded me that I needed to stop looking backward and look forward to the future that He has planned for me. I take my MP3 player with me when I go walking. I think it is good to get some good God focused music and get to stepping. It is really hard to give up on yourself when you are listening to songs that remind you how awesome our God is.

I want to thank Molly for the first comment on the blog. It was quite funny as I was just talking to Leanna about how no one has commented so I'm not sure if anyone has even looked at it yet.
It is good to know that there is at least one person!! =)

I am getting ready to go through my cookbooks and find my favorite recipes again. Maybe tomorrow I'll give you a list of my favorite cookbooks. I can tell you right now that my all time #1 favorite is Better Homes and Gardens New Dieter's Cookbook. Not only does it have the calorie count for everything, it also has pictures for every recipe. That's my favorite!!

Biggest Loser Kickoff

I have officially survived the first 2 days of The Biggest Loser competition!! In order to protect the innocent (or the hungry) I am going to list our starting weight as a group. I will be honest and admit that I take up more than 1/4 of the total.

As a group we are starting at 933 lbs. That is quite ridiculous for 4 grown adults who know better. That's okay though because we are going to take the steps necessary to correct the situation. I will update the blog every monday with the percentages that we lost so that everyone can track our progress without really knowing how much we weigh =). We will definitely appreciate any encouraging and uplifting comments that ya'll want to leave along our journey. We are still working on coming up with rewards and challenges and we don't have an overall prize yet so if you have any ideas, please let us know. As of now, we plan on having the competition until June 1st when Chris and Molly will be leaving us to move to Colorado =( .

I pray that God just keeps His hands on all of us as we try to do a better job of taking care of these bodies He gave us. I keep telling God that I'll work on doing what I know to do for the outside of me if He'll keep working on healing up the inside of me. He seems to be okay with that arrangement. Praise be to God!!

The picture above is my "BEFORE" picture. It will look really good next to my "AFTER" picture. I would like to mention that I don't appreciate people taking pictures of me while I'm sleeping (you know who you are).
Have an awesome day!!!

The beginning of the blog

I guess I will use my first post to explain how this blog came about. For most of my adult life, I have been a story teller. I have always viewed the things that have happened in my life as "just another story to tell". Many times, I have had others tell me that I should write a book because some of the stories of my life are completely unbelievable.

God has really been moving in my life and showing me things that my wounded heart couldn't see before. I have wanted to share these things with others but didn't know the best way so I thought maybe a blog would be a good idea.

When my friends Leanna, Molly and I were talking about how we need to get healthy in 2009, we decided that a biggest loser competition would be fun motivation. We needed ways to hold ourselves, and each other, accountable. Molly suggested a blog and it all just clicked. I can create a blog that will cover my journey on my walk with God, my weightloss journey and tales from the zoo that is my home.

The header picture is The Biggest Loser gals. Molly's husband (who happens to be Leanna's brother) wants to participate in the contest too. I'm okay with that but he doesn't get to be in the picture. =)

Tomorrow I'll let you know where we are starting as a group and you can track our progress along the way.

May God Bless You richly in 2009. Happy New Year!!
